Sound of Shattering[] |
10x Flalla |
1x Light Wignow |
944 words |
Diyael has asked me to prove that I'm on the mend and I've chosen to fight a new type of Wignow they call Light Wignow, and a Flalla, a little bubble creature which I saw in her healing room. It's small and kind of cute, so I shouldn't have any problems defeating it. Does it help medicinally, though? How? There is so much still left to learn in this new place.
| ||||
Always Bribe the Guards[] |
2,500 words (if you have the items) |
Well, I won and Diyael has said I can leave when I'm ready. She also mentioned that I'll need to bribe her "guards" outside the door. Hopefully those two cat-creatures will be happy with forest Leaves, since that's the only thing I'm willing to give up right now. Nice to know guards in any shape enjoy bribes, especially edible ones.
| ||||
Not So Peaceful Pond[] |
2,400 words |
I guess I shouldn't be surprised there are still Dust-creatures to fight, but really. This pond was a peaceful place and they've come into wreck havoc. Defeating two Zikel and Cappu hopefully won't be hard. Zikel is going to tax my reflexes if they're as quick as I think they are, but at least I was able to find Lodo!

Quarter a Master[] |
10,050 words |
Well, that's one person Diyael mentioned that I've finally met; Holten the Quartermaster. He seems to be on top of things here, making his lists and pushing Dust Warriors into practices that help them get better. To figure out where I best fit in with the Resistance troops, he's asked me to defeat several creatures.

Creep Into a Graveyard[] |
4,000 words |
With Suwö, we've gotten the last member of our group back, and we've met up with the Spymaster as well. Spymaster Wilder was making a deal with Suwö, two of them, actually, so we're going to to help with one of the tasks and that'll free him to work on the other one. Besides, what's a few creature battles between friends?

I feel awful, making Luzia of Light relive the past like that. The least I can do is get her the items she wants. It's a haphazard list though... I mean, what is she doing...? Ah well. Practicing patience is good, I guess. Hopefully this'll make her happy again and we can learn more about her and the King's Castle.

Huh... looks like all those items we collected in the Dark Forest are about to be worth their carry weight. Azadi's excited about learning from the ghosts, and truthfully, I'm interested in seeing how this works. Out of us three, only Suwö is not happy, though I don't know if that's because of the crafting, the ghosts, or Luzia's Mai.

Blisk's Stone Stories (1/10)[] |
1x Blisk
1,500 words | |
I wish we could have heard more from Blisk, I had no idea that the Valley's name was actually Mai Valley, and that Dust Mountain originally had the name Sunglow. It must have been beautiful then. I wonder, after we defeat Blisk, if we'll be able to talk again? Or maybe I should look at the statues in Ghost Corridor.
| ||||
Building a Plan[] |
6,000 words |
Huh. I didn't see Holten as the type of guy who needed to move about when making plans, but I know enough Dust Warriors who feel the same; it's not that surprising. I do hope he figures out his ideas quickly though, I don't want to spend too long controlling Dust infections when I could be helping in a better way.
| ||||
A Light Patrol[] |
6,200 words |
The Quartermaster's asked us patrol with him so that we can prove ourselves to be capable future members of his resistance. We'll go deep into caverns away from the city. I wonder what we'll find out here? I've heard wings beating high above us.. maybe if I get closer to the cave's roof I'll be able to spot the source?
| ||||
You Want What?[] |
Unlocks items in Armory |
8,376 words (if you have the items) |
Things seem to be progressing. Quartermaster Holten has an idea of what he can do now. In addition, we've been welcomed into the Resistance, which sounded great until he said we'll need to make our own armor, he still wants us to fight several more creatures, and that he barely trusts us. All good things must be earned, I guess.

Information Locked Away[] |
13,528 words |
Luzia of Light seems like she's been through a lot. I still can't believe she was here when Dust started to be a problem! Maybe that's why she doesn't think it's as dangerous as we've discovered. I really wish it was easier to talk to her though. Just think of all the information she has and could share with us!
| ||||
The Warrior Returns[] |
15,425 words (if you have the items) |
Finally, we can go back out in the Valley again! I'm not happy that Wilder's asking me to spy on my friends, but it'll be good to check in on them. Maybe I can bring them some items? That way I won't be dropping in and raising suspicions... I think I'll need to plan this very carefully for each being.

Manipulation or Mistrust?[] |
6,700 words |
Spymaster Wilder told us to tell Holten their suspicions about Luzia, but when we turned back for the market, Dust-infected creatures were in our way. Wilder was saying they think Dust has gained a foothold in the City of Light, warping people's thoughts and instincts, but honestly? I wonder if they are picking up on things their heart is shying away from...

Everybody, Move![] |
10,000 words |
I don't know what's going on, but I've got a horrible feeling I'm not going to like the answer when we find out. We've talked to Holten, but he thinks there's no way Luzia would turn against the very city she founded. Hearing Wilder cry out just now though, makes me think differently. We have to get to them, quickly!
| ||||
Prepare to Attack[] |
14,600 words (if you have the items) |
Luzia of Light's gone, and while Wilder says it looks like she left willingly, the problem is that we don't know. Our plan for the moment is to prepare ourselves, gather as many Dust Warriors as possible, then follow the underwater pathway Lodo discovered—well, rediscovered—earlier. It should reach the castle ruins, but after that, only the Ancients know...

Release the Light![] |
4x Light Wignow
1,776 words | |
The City of Light opened just long enough for a few Light Wignows to escape into the Valley, and now they're running all over the place. I don't know how long they'll be around the Valley, but I can help by defeating four and keeping City of Light as secret as possible... even after this bright and dazzling light show.
| ||||
Hypnotic Dance Party (1/2)[] |
100x Arluzi
Unlocks Sway to the Beat (2/2) |
5,000 words | |
I've stumbled upon a group of Arluzi swaying and pulsing, most separated into a main color, but others mixing and matching in (as far as I can tell) random patterns. It almost looks as if I've stumbled upon a secret dance competition (or maybe they're communicating about food?). Time to steal the show with my amazing "100 Strikes" sword dance!
| ||||
Sway to the Beat (2/2)[] Unlocked by Hypnotic Dance Party (1/2) |
444x Arluzi
22,200 words | |
I may have bitten off more than I can chew. Those 100 Arluzi? Have now become a crowd of 444 Arluzi. At this point there are enough of them that they might be able to hypnotize me, if I drop my guard. Getting past this group will require more than flashy sword moves... maybe I should include a backslide motion?

Getting to Know COL (1/4)[] |
11-day streak
444 words (if you have the items) |
There's a lot to the City of Light that can't be seen if a Dust Warrior just walks the main streets. Azadi and Suwö have suggest that I look around the city and see it unrushed. I might just take them up on that idea... I think eleven days will be enough to have a good feel for this place. I'll also take this opportunity to see how they craft these Dust resistant materials here.

Getting to Know COL (2/4)[] Unlocked by Getting to Know COL (1/4) |
22-day streak
1,776 words (if you have the items) |
Wow... there's a lot more to COL that I realized. In fact, I think it's the oldest area I've visited in the entire Valley! Well, except for the Ruins—it's older than 3PC though! There's something different about this city... it has a sense of permanence around it. Almost as if the first builders knew Dust would stay for centuries.

Getting to Know COL (3/4)[] Unlocked by Getting to Know COL (2/4) |
44-day streak

Unlocks Getting to Know COL (4/4) |
3,552 words (if you have the items) |
As strange as it is to think, twenty-two days of wandering around the City of Light wasn't enough. That means I'm going to double the last amount of time I took and use it to comb the city and all the areas nearby. I might even talk to Wilder about getting some hints and really make sure I take a look around so I don't miss anything.

Getting to Know COL (4/4)[] Unlocked by Getting to Know COL (3/4) |
88-day streak
3,552 words (if you have the items) |
Okay. I can't help it, but I need to take one more look around the city and see if I'm missing anything else. There are back ways, narrow streets, and enough dead ends that actually lead somewhere, I wonder if it was built this way, or if when people added to COL, they deliberately made it mazelike and hard to get from A to B?
| ||||
Have to Tear Down (1/2)[] |
NA |
The City of Light has put out a call for bulk materials they can use to keep their base healthy, happy, and homey; I'm surprised they want Dust, but I like the thought of turning something bad into something good. And part of life is the fact that decay's sometimes needed, such as how some creatures nest in dead trees.
| ||||
To Build Things Up (2/2)[] |
NA |
I helped the first time COL needed bulk materials so they've asked for more. It might take me a while to gather everything they need, but I feel that they'll put those supplies to good use. Tesven's words roll in my mind—"Don't mock cooking and sewing. Everyone needs to eat, and be kept warm." And even here he's correct.

Zoom Goes Dust[] Unlocked after main quest 3: Not So Peaceful Pond |
15x Cappu |
4,500 words |
I heard some high-pitched cries from a small cleared section and found several Twiym and Cappu engaged in a high speed chase. The amount of Dust being released as they run about is alarming, so I'm going to step in and stop them. Which, as I take in sharp claws and fangs from both creatures, might have been a mistake.

Glows the Alarm (1/2)[] Unlocked after main quest 3: Not So Peaceful Pond Timed quest: 7 day limit |
Unlocks Screams the Lights (2/2) |
5,500 words |
Even though Tuvalis have been trained to call out at signs of Dust (one of the Resistance members told me that information), they've been going off at the strangest times lately. I'm going to look into what's been setting them off. I think it's the glowing lights from Zikel and Arluzi, but I'm not sure. This will take some time.

Screams the Lights (2/2)[] Unlocked by Glows the Alarms (1/2) Timed quest: 7 day limit |
1x Light Key |
11,000 words |
I found the problem. I thought that Tuvalis could sense Dust like the type I saw at the Purple Gate—talking, thinking, malevolent. While it can, it also is sensitive to the Dusted fur of Zikel and the glowing Dust Arluzi has. Which means if I want to sleep soundly, I'll need to silence twenty of each in seven days.
| ||||
Light Up Smiles[] Unlocked after main quest 4: Quarter a Master |
8,400 words |
It's fun to hunt creatures in the dark here. More frustrating in other parts of the Valley of course (can anyone talk about underwater torches without cursing?) but at least Zikel and Syfirris are easy to spot thanks to the bits that glow on them. I will admit that I have to smile in return when I see Syfirris about.
| ||||
Sticking to the Familiar[] Unlocked by main quest 4: Quarter a Master |
30,800 words |
Unlike Dust Warriors, members of the Resistance like to train with Maikin and Tuvalis. I can understand that, since in the City of Light they remember Mai being the reason Dust has taken over the Valley, and they want to know all the nuances of the alarms Tuvalis will release... but I really think they should branch out a little.
| ||||
Quick and Slow[] Unlocked by main quest 4: Quarter a Master |
4,000 words |
I never thought I'd be able to sneak up on a Syfirris, let alone a pack of them, but I've found a place where a troop of Tiotuga immobilized them. Maybe I should thank the rocky creatures? I feel I'm taking advantage of the situation, but not having to worry about tails hitting my face will make de-Dusting much easier!
| ||||
Screaming about Echoes[] Unlocked by main quest 5: Creep into a Graveyard |
4-day streak |
9,600 words |
I'm starting to wonder if the person involved with Tuvalis is still around the City of Light. If they are, I can lay this awful headache at their feet. So, Guarroh are creatures which rely on echoes to walk around. Tuvalis are creatures that scream in Dust's presence. See the problem? It's going to take four days to fix this...
| ||||
Nights and Dandes[] Unlocked by main quest 5: Creep into a Graveyard |
5,250 words |
There aren't many creatures in the Valley which are completely diurnal or nocturnal. Most are fine going out at anytime, no matter if it's light or dark (or in some cases, they live in areas with the amount of light they prefer). Keqiri and Dandeleons are the only ones I can think of... I wonder what they have in common?
| ||||
Blossoms, Candles, and Dust[] Unlocked by main quest 5: Creep into a Graveyard |
9,940 words |
There are a lot of creatures here in the City of Light that are infected with more Dust than the beings here realized. Maybe it's because we're so close to the castle, but I think people here have become a little too... blasé about how quickly creatures absorb Dust. I think I'll go about and defeat those that need
| ||||
For the Creepy-Crawly[] Unlocked by main quest 5: Creep into a Graveyard |
10x Hezeta
12,000 words | |
Hezeta is a creature I don't mind applying the label "creepy-crawly" to. I've seen them on walls and ceilings, their little legs clicking as they skitter around looking for food, and I can understand why some Dust Warriors prefer to hunt other (less creepy) creatures. It might not be much, but maybe clearing out ten from this area can help.
| ||||
The Sundial Path[] Unlocked by main quest 5: Creep into a Graveyard Time Limit: 1 day |
8x Day Keqiri
2,000 words | |
Watching the Day Keqiri walking around gave me an interesting idea on how to test myself—I'm going to defeat one for each hour of sunlight that the City of Light receives. The next question is if I want to take a sundial path, defeating one on the hour, or if I want to enjoy a burst of sudden light?
| ||||
Eyes on the Clock[] Unlocked by main quest 5: Creep into a Graveyard Time Limit: 10 days |
10x Hezeta
12,000 words | |
Ten days to defeat ten Hezeta. I think the hardest part of this challenge will be finding the creatures and making sure they don't squirt venom at me. This will be a great way to test my ranged weapons and figure out how to best lure them into one area. I wonder if glowing lights will attract or scare them?
| ||||
Swoop and Glow[] Unlocked by main quest 10: A Light Patrol |
13,500 words |
Light and color are certainly at home in the City of Light, and there's nothing more mesmerizing than watching Pawia snatching Arluzi from the ground. Light that the smaller bugs let out twinkles from the glass shards in Pawia's ears. I guess I should enter the fray myself and see how many of each I can defeat in the dark.
| ||||
Cleaning the Crystal Dome[] Unlocked by main quest 10: A Light Patrol |
13,800 words (if you have the items) |
I asked some of the Resistance members about the unique buildings I've seen in the City of Light, and I was a bit surprised at their answer. Apparently, and this happened before Dust reigned, all of the houses and buildings built here were crafted to blend in with the forest, which is why they look like blue and green mushrooms!
| ||||
Old Friend Darkness (1/4)[] Unlocked by main quest 11: You Want What? |
NA |
Now that I know the way in and out of the City of Light, I can be of help and source materials from around the Valley for them. Closest is the Dark Forest. That'll get me Spirit Dust, Parchment, and Steel Chains. I'm not sure what Wilder is looking for, so I'm going to need to take notes on everything.

From the Water Side (2/4)[]Unlocked by Old Friend Darkness (1/4) |
NA |
I heard that Kyiat's actually out of Luciola at the moment (and that's a surprise!), but thankfully she can be found pretty easily in Luko's Inn. I'm not sure why she's visiting Riza, and it's such a great place that I don't think she needs a reason, but this'll give me a chance to cool down in the river, too.
| ||||
Desert, I Love You (3/4)[]Unlocked by From the Water Side (2/4) |
NA |
There's some unique logic for a water Shaman to be in the desert, but that's exactly where Wynfri of Water is. It's been a while since I've been able to sit down and talk with xem, so I'm hoping I go and use that as an excuse... and continue gathering supplies from this area for the beings in the City of Light.

Hello, Goodbye Forest (4/4)[]Unlocked by Desert, I Love You (3/4) |
NA |
Off to the Forest region, farthest from the City of Light so it holds the most valuable resources and materials for them. Home as well to Alia of Air. She's in Mama Tree, but I don't know if the spy Suwö and I encountered is still there stirring up trouble. I also remember that Kyiat wasn't very trusting of Alia...

All The City[] Unlocked by main quest 16: Prepare to Attack |
8,394 words |
There are a lot of new creatures and beings in the City of Light, but, especially with being a newcomer here, I want to make sure my tactics and strategies will still hold up. I'm going to seek out one of each and fight them. I'll take notes of my battles in my logbook—that way I can learn, too.

Payment for Stories (2/10)[] Unlocked by main quest 8: Blisk's Stone Stories |
4x Fusion Glass
Unlocks Mauri's Castle Chronicles (3/10) |
NA | |
Blisk asked us for a favor. He'd like to be remembered more, and to do he wants some Fusion Glass put near his statue. That way, when a Keqiri deposits candles, he'll be as flashy and attractive as the stones he used to polished. He also mentioned putting in a good word with Mauri, so we'll speak to them next.

Mauri's Castle Chronicles (3/10)[] Unlocked by Payment for Stories (2/10) |
1,500 words | |
Interesting... I thought the castle had always been here, I didn't realize that King Mai had it built for himself. And even though I'm glad Mauri told us about the castle they built, I would have preferred to know more about what types of traps (and how many) they placed in there. Ones we'll walk on? Trip over? Push against?

Artux's Army Accounts (5/10)[] Unlocked by Payment for Chronicles (4/10) |
1x Artux
1,500 words | |
So... Traitor Maliki isn't a traitor, he actually traded information to Artux so he could lead her army and she could spread the Elders' secrets around the Valley in a desperate bid to protect people. I guess he got that label when everything fell to pieces. I wonder, if Artux had lead the army, if the outcome would've been different?
| ||||
Payment for Accounts (6/10)[] Unlocked by Artux's Army Accounts (5/10) |
5,600 words (if you have the items) |
Talking with Artux was interesting, and I hope we'll be able to defeat Dust soon so Miclan can bring her back to her wives. She wanted one shield put at her statue to remind people about defending themselves and others, but mostly she wanted us to patrol and fight. She also told us to listen to Maliki's words after hers.
| ||||
Maliki's Traitorous Tale (7/10)[] Unlocked by Payment for Accounts (6/10) |
1,500 words | |
So Artux, with all their warrior connections, was supposed to spread the knowledge she'd gained to every being in the Valley, and Maliki, an Elder with no warrior training, led her army straight to King Mai's castle and was pretty much instantly repelled. I wonder why Artux wasn't labeled a traitor for giving command of her troops to a non-warrior?
| ||||
Payment for Tales (8/10)[] Unlocked by Maliki's Traitorous Tale (7/10) |
NA |
Even though Maliki didn't want to speak to us, it was really nice of him to help us find the one spirit that doesn't have a statue in this corridor. He asked us to craft items and give them to anyone who needs them; in the meantime, we'll need to wait for Noanza to approach us. Can't be long, right?
| ||||
Noanza's Bright Beliefs (9/10)[] Unlocked by Payment for Tales (8/10) |
1x Noanza
1,500 words | |
Noanza is... sugar electrified with energy and somehow very optimistic for being a spirit. When we asked them how to defeat Dust, their answers honestly didn't instill me with much hope. I'm crossing my fingers that we'll be able to find a better offense and defense for when we attack the castle. Maybe someone in COL will have better ideas…
| ||||
Planting Hopeful Beliefs (10/10)[] Unlocked by Noanza's Bright Beliefs (9/10) |
14,800 words (if you have the items) |
Noanza didn't ask us to do anything for them. Instead, they asked us to continue working hard and helping the beings all around us. I think that goes along very well with the "light is inside you" feelings that they were mentioning earlier. The best thing I can think to do is make sure everyone's ready to finish this fight!

There's Something Strange[] Unlocked by Planting Hopeful Beliefs (10/10) |
24,000 words |
I've learned a lot from the spirits in the Ghost Corridor, and I'm hoping that continuing to battle them will let me learn more, too (either about myself, about the history of Dust, or even about the City of Light). I think defeating them all four times will be enough.

In order to avoid excessive traveling, it's recommended to check ahead and craft the items you'll need for future quests (up to The Warrior Returns, which will keep you away for a while anyway).
CoL has a lot of quests that go well together, however a lot of the creatures from earlier quests are fought again later, so some quests are worth putting aside for a bit.
The Corridor Side Quests chain, unlocked by Blisk's Stone Stories (1/10) is worth picking up right away, and completed up to (including) Noanza's Bright Beliefs (9/10). Some of the reasons for that are:
- The battles needed for Payment for Accounts (6/10) could be done while working on the main quest line.
- Some of the quest rewards are battle items, which will otherwise not be available until completing You Want What? (and will cost resources to craft).
- Completing Payment for Tales (8/10) unlocks Noanza, which is the best source of Fusion Glass in the game so far. This will come in handy towards the end of this area.
- Some of the items needed for these quests might already be in your inventory, or crafted fairly easily.
