AL101: Finding Common Materials (1/3)[] |
5x Quaruk | 1x Alchemy Exam Credit
|
250 words | |
Alchemy class has started, and I thought I'd be learning how not to blow up the lab, but apparently we're starting at the most basic level with common ingredients. Well... Maybe an easy pass won't be a bad thing. Breezing through class will let me concentrate more on other subjects, and I probably have any needed items in my inventory.
| ||||
AL102: Collecting Materials (2/3)[]
|
1x Jaraci | 2x Aederster | 2x Alchemy Exam Credit
|
500 words |
I thought that learning how to collecting items would be covered in other classes, but there's enough information here that I really did need this much time to cover it all. I never knew that there were so many ways to handle items: bare hands, gloved hands, air nets, water nets, nets in general. This should help with monsters too!
| ||||
AL103: Basic Lab Test (3/3)[]
|
1x Professor Perrene | 3x Alchemy Exam Credit | 800 words
Potions, vials, and chemicals. This test will be a doozy, and Professor Perrene will be lucky if there's only one explosion here. This won't be a straight fight like my other classes. It's not just what a students needs that he'll put out, but also other items that'll react badly since knowing what *not* to touch is just as important.
| ||||
Alchemy Final Exam: Lab[]
|
2x Professor Perrene 10x Stardust 10x Dew Berry 10x Scrolls 10x Spellfire 5x Alchemy Exam Credit | 4x Aederster 1x Audrick II 1x Sapee 2x Jaraci 7x Quaruk | 1x Alchemy Graduation Scroll (Battle Item) 1x Graduation Scroll Alchemy (House Item) | 3,970 words |
All those classes and it's finally time for the Alchemy Final Exam. Whew! I've been preparing for this day, but I'm still not sure if I have what it takes to finish this lab. Then again, it might be easier than roaming the Enchanted Forest to get items and fight monsters. Maybe. Though, I guess that could be my exam...
| ||||
ALXC: Beyond Pumpkins[]
|
4x Sapee | 8x Aederster | 1x Alchemy Exam Credit 1x Alchemy Goggles (Wardrobe) | 2,480 words |
Professor Perrene has offered extra credit to any student who needs it, but he's done it in the form of a question. "Think outside the pumpkin shell to determine a good match. Remember, not everything alchemical needs to be found in the Enchanted Forest, and good experiments can't be ignored." I guess I'll wander and see what creature I find?
| ||||
AL105: Identical Items (1/3)[]
|
3x Sapee | 1x Alchemy Exam Credit
1x Magic Sapee Hanging Lamp (House Item)
|
1,260 words | |
Professor Perrene has been talking about what happens when three identical items are mixed together, and he wants us to see what happens when using ingredients from a Sapee. While most monsters have some differences among them, these tend to stay close enough in manner, shape, and basics that they made a great example for lessons. I wonder what'll happen?
| ||||
AL205: Similar Items (2/3)[]
|
10x Sapee | 1x Alchemy Exam Credit
1x Sapee Crown (Wardrobe)
|
4,200 words | |
Okay, so using identical items will usually make a potion thicker, in addition to doubling the timing of the effects. Now we're going to up the number of Sapee ingredients with potions already made from other monster drops and see what happens when finished items have new elements introduced to them. I think some potions will explode and others won't.
| ||||
AL305: Different Items (3/3)[]
|
12x Sapee | 1x Alchemy Exam Credit 1x Magic Sapee Lamp (House Item) | 5,040 words
And finally, we're working with Sapee that Professor Perrene has planted to have very different observational quirks, like bigger leaves, shorter fronds, and even some which have turned different colors. Putting them together should make something, but since they're no longer identical, I'm not sure what's going to happen... and as the professor always says, that's part of the fun!
| ||||
AL201: Finding Uncommon Materials (1/2)[]
|
15x Quaruk | 1x Alchemy Exam Credit
|
750 words | |
Okay, so learning about gathering materials is not a breezy class at all. I didn't realize that ingredients had a freshness value on them, and that picking flowers in sunlight versus moonlight versus cloud cover and even starlight all graced the plant with slightly different properties. I'm going to have to pay a lot more attention than I was earlier!
| ||||
AL301: Finding Rare Materials (2/2)[]
|
30x Quaruk | 1x Alchemy Exam Credit 1x Quaruk Flower (House Item) | 1,500 words
Finally, I've made it to the next class, all about finding rare materials. We've got a field trip pretty much every week, and there's a theme with all these ingredients: most of the time, the base item is common, but it's the journey that makes the end item rare. Heh. Almost like all of us students here, studying and working.
| ||||
AL202: Preserving Materials (1/3)[]
|
2x Jaraci 3x Aederster | 1x Sapee | 1x Alchemy Exam Credit
|
1,320 words |
Going straight from collecting items is preserving them. We started with watery items, and so far if an items wet, it might need to stay wet (or as the professor said, it might be best to dry it). I asked about items that were underwater, but didn't actually touch the water, like fish bones, and was told the situation depends.
| ||||
AL302: Organizing Materials (2/3)[]
|
5x Aederster 3x Jaraci | 2x Sapee | 1x Alchemy Exam Credit
1x Aederster Mouth (Wardrobe)
|
2,240 words |
Organizing materials is less of a book-learning experience and more of a practical class. The interesting thing is that everyone has their own system, and I've been learning that what I use isn't necessarily what's best for me. I'm looking forward to seeing the systems my friends use and stealing bits that might be better for me and my goals.
| ||||
AL402: Using Organic Materials (3/3)[]
|
10x Aederster 6x Jaraci | 6x Sapee | 1x Alchemy Exam Credit 1x Alchemy Class Ecosystem (House Item) | 5,320 words |
Last but not least, I'm finally in a class that will teach me about using all the common and rare ingredients that I've collected. I'm working hard, taking notes, and maybe (with a little luck), I'll come up with a new potion or salve. Hmm... I think I'll take some time after classes and bounce ideas off of my friends...
| ||||
AL203: Novice Lab Test (1/2)[]
|
4x Professor Perrene | 1x Alchemy Exam Credit
1x Alchemy Hat (Wardrobe)
|
3,200 words | |
I learned how to dodge explosions and chemical reactions in the basic lab (hint: keep checking the people surrounding you), but this advanced class is about preventing such things instead of avoiding them. Our professor also wants us to practice stopping reactions in progress and discussing how to salvaging ruined potions, even if the effect changes from the original intention.
| ||||
AL303: Apprentice Lab Test (2/2)[]
|
6x Professor Perrene | 4x Mund | 1x Alchemy Exam Credit 1x Alchemy Hands (Wardrobe) | 6,800 words |
Now that we know how to make potions with chemicals (and we can help calm an excited potion down), my class has gotten permission to start making our own potions. I have a few ideas, but the one I'm most excited about will give the drinker rainbow colored hair... but so far all I'm getting is a rainbow colored tongue?
| ||||
AL204: Surviving Night Hunts (1/3)[]
|
2x Audrick II | 2x Bomatik | 1x Alchemy Exam Credit
1x Magical Scratches (Wardrobe)
|
1,600 words |
Hunting for alchemy ingredients at night is not the easiest class I've taken (to be fair, I haven't ranked my classes yet so I'm not sure which one that actually is), but it's certainly exciting. Every little noise makes my heart pound, and I swear it's louder than the insects I keep hearing. Dawn can't come soon enough for me!
| ||||
AL304: Surviving Dawn Hunts (2/3)[]
|
4x Audrick II | 10x Knuff | 1x Alchemy Exam Credit
1x Audrick II Lips (Wardrobe)
|
3,000 words |
I've survived the night! And after I get some sleep, I'll be conducting Dawn Hunts. I feel nighttime is harder, but another student told me that this is when weather conditions might impede visibility and predators are a little more desperate to hunt prey (so they'll take riskier chances). I think I'll be okay... I've just got to stay awake.
| ||||
AL404: Surviving Twilight Hunts (3/3)[]
|
6x Audrick II | 12x Kinguz | 1x Alchemy Exam Credit 1x Audrick II Shoulder Friends (Wardrobe) | 4,440 words |
Finally, I've graduated to the hardest class out of the four; surviving areas in twilight. This is the most advanced class because night is drawing nearer and it's much harder to see. In addition, there are plenty of hungry nocturnal predators that are looking for a snack! I've drawn my weapon, and I'm walking around being as quiet as possible.

1x Cobaltoan Chysis 1x Cobaltoan Whodini 1x Cobaltoan Lole 10x Raw Stone | 1x Cobaltoan Alderbam 1x Cobaltoan Mund 5x Dew Berry | 1x Cobaltoan Path (House Item) | 3,250 words |
I've learned that there's another set of familiars with Cobaltoan calcite crystals growing all over their bodies, and the rumors are saying that if I defeat all of them, then I can bring some of that beautiful rock into my study area. The color is amazing, almost popping, and I can't wait to see how flowers will look surrounding it!

While I've already graduated Alchemy, there's more that I can do with the class to prove my skills in the subject, and not only show off knowledge of my own work, but in my field as a whole. In Alchemy, for instance, maybe I'll research properties of moon-kissed items, or try to recreate lost potions only mentioned in Ancient Knowledge.

Introduction to Fungi Studies[] |
Have 1 Alchemy Graduation Scroll in your Hero inventory | 5x Quaruk 5x Dew Berry | 1x Fungi Exam Credit
|
250 words |
For my 2nd year at the academy, I've signed up for Fungi Magic. I'll need to bring my Alchemy Graduation Scroll with me as proof that I've passed that class entirely, and I'll also have to do a little preparatory homework to make sure I'm up to date with my knowledge. I feel it's pretty obvious how these courses combine.
| ||||
F101: Fungi & Magic (1/3)[]
|
10x Kinopi | 1x Fungi Exam Credit
|
1,000 words | |
Professor Perrene opened up a new class all about magic and fungi. Of course I'll be going into the Enchanted Forest to hunt for all the fungi hiding there. Right now though, the course is mostly lecture-based as we prepare for the dangers and obstacles we'll encounter when we go fungi hunting (a.k.a. "shrooming"). I hope I find glowing ones!
| ||||
F102: Fungi with Magic (2/3)[]
|
5x Nerai | 2x Fungi Exam Credits
|
1,400 words | |
Our second class is about fungi with magic, and Professor Perrene is focusing on how casting spells around fungi can have effects on the spells as well as the fungi. One of the other Dust Warriors in class asked what happened to fungi that grow near the dungeons (with all that magic) and now that's been added to the lecture.
| ||||
F103: Magic in Fungi (3/3)[]
|
3x Rakka | 3x Fungi Exam Credits | 1,200 words
Finally, we get to start testing things like the amount of magic found inside fungi! I'm sure there's going to be some "super safe and reasonable" way to test the process... pretty much how I'm also sure some Dust Warrior is going to eat a fungi and try to come up with their own scale based on taste and texture.

5x Takitoel 8x Rakka 30x Kinopi | 15x Nerai 10x Fungi Exam Credit | 1x Fungi Graduation Scroll (Battle Item) 1x Graduation Scroll Fungi (House Item) | 14,650 words |
Today's the day! Fungi Studies will be having its Final Exam with the first part in the academy and the second part in the Enchanted Forest. Since this isn't only testing my knowledge of fungi, but alo [sic] Alchemy, I think I'll be spending most of my time outside hunting down the monsters and ingredients I'll need to pass the exam.
| ||||
F201: Toadstool Teachings (1/3)[]
|
15x Kinopi | 1x Fungi Exam Credits
|
1,500 words | |
I just found out today that all toadstools are fungi, but not all fungi are toadstools, since those are only the ones which are poisonous to humans. Before we're to shroom in the Enchanted Forest, Professor Perrene's taking the time to show (and tell) us about all the ones we shouldn't touch, sniff, taste, lick, or... stick in our eye?
| ||||
F301: Toadstool Tales (2/3)[]
|
25x Kinopi 2x Takitoel | 1x Fungi Body Growth
1x Fungi Exam Credits
|
2,500 words | |
There are books upon book in the library about toadstools as well, mostly precautionary tales stating what will happen if specific fungi aren't harvested correctly. We're to go over the proper ways to harvest with a knife, boil, dry, and even wash toadstools so they become harmless. And here I thought the dangerous part would be walking around the forest.
| ||||
F401: Toadstool Terrors (3/3)[]
|
40x Kinopi 4x Takitoel | 1x Fungi Hands 1x Fungi Exam Credits | 7,400 words
The final class on toadstools is a collection of terrifying tales about beings who didn't heed the warnings (or who didn't know the correct ways to go shrooming). Professor Perrene says that we can either learn from those who came before us, or we can, if we're lucky, learn when we do something wrong, but there won't be many chances.
| ||||
F202: Under the Cap (1/3)[]
|
3x Rakka | 1x Fungi Exam Credits
|
1,200 words | |
Moving on from toadstools, this class is all about the fungi caps. Textures can be smooth, crinkly, crispy in some cases, and even wet, or slimy due to dew (if lucky) or mucus (if unlucky). I think this is going to be harder than it sounds since we're supposed to learn about the cap while also not touching it? Ugh!
| ||||
F302: Check the Gills (2/3)[]
|
5x Rakka | 1x Fungi Exam Credits
|
2,000 words | |
Next up under the fungi cap, the gills! This area is a papery "rib" under many (but not all) capped fungi. It's apparently the most important part for identification, which makes me think we should have had this as the first class and not the second one, but maybe Professor Perrene had a different idea when he made the syllabus?
| ||||
F402: Lots of Spores (3/3)[]
|
7x Rakka | 1x Fungi Trunk 1x Fungi Exam Credits | 2,800 words
Last but not least, we're taking a class to learn more about fungi spores, which like to hide out in the gill area. These are similar to seeds, but they don't have a covering and are released into the air just like dust. I don't want to smell these because I'm pretty sure they're going to remind me of mold.
| ||||
F203: Fungi for Dyeing (1/2)[]
|
1x Sunserk (Co-op Monster) | 1x Sunserk Hat
1x Fungi Exam Credits
|
2,000 words | |
There are more uses to fungi than eating them, or using them in medicine. Today's class has been exploring how to use fungi and toadstools for dyeing wool and other natural fibers. The colors that come out aren't as dark as the fungi's coloring can get, but it's a much cheaper way to dye than using, say, using snail shells.
| ||||
F303: Fungi for Tinder (2/2)[]
|
4x Sunserk (Co-op Monster) | 1x Fungi Picnic 1x Fungi Exam Credits | 8,000 words
I didn't know there are specific fungi which can be used to start fires. Tinder fungi are found on tree trunks in the Enchanted Forest, and the fire they start can be yellow, green, or even blue. I'm not sure if the colors actually do anything (grilling food on green flames seems strange), but at least I won't be surprised.
| ||||
F104: Fungi Hunting (1/4)[]
|
6x Nerai 3x Takitoel | 1x Fungi Exam Credits
|
4,230 words | |
With everything that I've learned about fungi, it's time to go shrooming! (Also known as fungi hunting.) I have my compartmentalized basket, a small knife, and I'm going to start in a forested region. The best thing to look for would be moisture, shade, and a lot of debris, like dead logs or decaying leaves. There should be some nearby!
| ||||
F204: Fungi Hunting (2/4)[]
|
8x Nerai 6x Rakka | 1x Fungi Shorts
1x Fungi Exam Credits
|
4,640 words | |
I was able to find fungi in the forest, which means it's time to leave some behind for other hunters and check out a new area. As moisture is something that almost all fungi love, I'm going to look closer to watery sources like ponds, lakes, and rivers. I don't think I'll find the same types as I did before.
| ||||
F304: Fungi Hunting (3/4)[]
|
12x Nerai 5x Takitoel | 1x Fungi Class Hat
1x Fungi Exam Credits
|
7,610 words | |
The water areas weren't as successful as I thought they'd be, but another Dust Warrior told me how they like to hunt—next to fallen trees. It might take a little scrapping with my knife to uncover the fungi there, but since it's right next to their favorite food, it should be much simpler to find them. I'm willing to try!
| ||||
F404: Fungi Hunting (4/4)[]
|
7x Rakka 24x Nerai 7x Takitoel | 1x Fungi Door 1x Fungi Exam Credits | 15,470 words
Professor Perrene came into class today and said we've all done very well shrooming in non-magical areas, and mixing those types of fungi with magical concoctions, but now it's time for us to search the Enchanted Forest. Now the fungi will have magical properties of their own, and they might act more animalistic than like the fungi we've previously hunted.
