Excavating East is a side quest in the Ruins. It is available when the Ruins open. It is a timed quest that must be competed in 2 hours from pick up.
It is one of four quests you must complete to unlock the Ruins quest: Tunnel Locked On, which unlocks the Shrine of Ages.

Interesting. This section's been locked off. I could try... nope. It just ate the metal I inserted (can we say creepy?). Looking closer, it appears this lock doesn't require a key. It needs three items acting as a key to unlock it. Why those three though? And what's that feeling?
