Tesven said to me that the Valley is losing hope, but when I asked why, he didn't have a definite answer. The best I could understand from him was that there were few creative sparks, and because of that, there was little faith in Dust Warriors actually, you know, helping. I want to help the revolution though, and between the two of us we came up with a plan. I'm going to write 5,000 words, and hope that this will be the first step others can use to join the fight! I just need to figure out what I'm writing...

Attain a 4-day streak |
![]() ![]() |
4,444 words | |
A new adventure awaits me as a Dust Warrior! Tesven says that the best way to longterm growth is through consistent action and he's put me to the test with a quest that requires a 4 day streak. I'll need to write at least 444 words each day for 4 consecutive days to earn that streak. While I do that, I'll have words to write and monsters to defeat in battle as well. It's what a Dust Warrior does, shows up day after day and puts in the work to get better. Best to get started right away!

30 days of consecutive writing is a large enough challenge that a new pair of Streak Wings is awarded to those who complete it. It's not for everyone though, and out of the tens of thousands that have joined the ranks of Dust Warrior, the Elders say that less than 10% of them ever get a 30 day streak. It will take a change of routine, a focused mind and determination. If I prove myself, not only will I get my Metal Wings, but I'll also get a bag of 10 Crystals!

I overheard one a Dust Warrior in town bragging about fighting five creatures in a single day, and it gave me a great idea! I should challenge myself to do the same, or... or even double that! Yeah, I bet I can do at least double! Now the question is, do I want to fight smaller creatures like Reenu? Or larger creatures like Aracnu? Or do I fight every creature I see in the wilderness? ... It probably doesn't matter. Any fights I win will help me be a better Warrior, and all creatures tend to drop items when they're defeated.

I've been fighting by myself for a while now, out in this wilderness, but I swear I can hear others talking nearby. I've only been able to catch snippets of conversation, but it's gone from answering questions and how everyone finds their creativity to friendly hellos and shouts of encouragement. I have to admit, the advice I overheard was very helpful - and it's good to know that I'm not the only one who forgets things. I wonder what would happen if I introduced myself in the Forum? Maybe I'll find a great group of online friends to share my journey with and earn a shiny forum badge for it!

One of the most beautiful things I've seen in Luciola Forest has certainly been the Dust lamps. After a few fights, I was resting, watching them and drifting off to sleep when I was disturbed by the sound of heavy footsteps. The being that came by was Ordco, and they're the (self-appointed) official checker of the lanterns. They told me that when the glow begins to fade, it means that the protection against the Dust is also disappearing. Liq of Light, apparently another Shaman in the Forest, will make some new ones if I can gather the materials xe needs.

I'm starting to wonder how in tune with nature Kyait is. She found me again today, but this time with some somber news. A vicious Aracnu attack infected a whole class of children, ten in all. She and Liq of Light will work together to make the antidote, but the shamans need a batch of spider poison to create the base. Kyait said that she knows I'll get the most potent poison, and to be quicker than the other Dust Warriors she knows. While I'm terrified and scared for the kids, I admit, it's nice to know she trusts me.

Rumors from Town were strong enough to reach me out here in the wilderness - Pan the Lumberjack's tools were stolen! The good thing (for me at least, not for her), is that she's offering a rare sword as a reward for anyone who can replace what they lost. I've checked the list, and I don't think that it'll cause me any problems. In fact... if I can get my hands on a sword, them my attack will be stronger, and it won't take me so long to whittle creatures down in battle! Oh... and I should help too, of course.

Marai approached me about adding accessories to the clothing she sells, saying that she thinks the additions would entice people and beings into buying more from her. The two things she needs me to collect are to add lacework patterns to the sleeves of her shirts and pants, along with feathers that can be sewn into collars and at the hemlines. I think she's right, and the splashes of color would be great to see around Town, so I'm getting ready to head off into the wilderness to gather what she needs. I wonder where she got the idea from?

The accessories I collected for Marai have been a huge hit! She found me the other day, exhausted, but happy that she's been able to help how she can. I may have insinuated to Tesven that sewing wasn't as important as fighting... and I have to admit I was wrong. The people in Town are much happier, and have something to brighten (literally!) their days. So, with that in mind, Marai's already anticipating the next design craze, and she's asked me to collect even more items for her. I'm curious to see what new designs she'll come up with now!

This place is a little different from where I grew up, so it's always interesting to see what's new here. Like the lanterns I saw earlier, or the Leaf Helmets I saw today! Kyait told me that even though Marai had made the Helmets fashionable, they were still useful than mere decoration. The sheer amount of feathers, pinched from Nitana, also protect the wearer against the purple Dust. I have to admit, when she told me that, my first thought was that I had to get myself a new hat. (Or if not, figure out how to make my own.) For now I'll provide feathers so more Helmets can be made for the community and earn myself a Chest!

Kyiat approached me and asked if I wanted to learn the secret of her ink. Of course, I immediately said yes. I've seen that ink in action before, poured into a pattern that made a simple sword into one that was luckier than it had previously been. She smirked, as if she'd known what my answer was going to be all along, and snapped at me to hurry up and get some Essence and Spider Poison. I'm intrigued. Does this mean the poison itself burns the pattern into the wood? Is it the Essence? Or a reaction from mixing both?

Singing ink has been successfully made, but Kyiat informed me that there's more than just the right balance of elements in the ink. I need to have the right words too. For example, if I wrote "felicitous" then there would some attraction to Luck, but by adding "kintsukuroi" it would be having Luck to fix what has been broken. She laughed, and told me that writing words wouldn't give me the understanding of fortuitous aptness or to treat repair as a natural part of an object's history. Then she said I'm going to need a bigger container (for my ink).

She'll also check my "scribblings" before I'm allowed to breathe life into them. The bad part is that wooden items practically drink ink, so I'm going to need to make even more, and add a special ingredient: Dust. Before I could react, she rolled her eyes, stated that it was safe enough, and said not to lecture her like Tesven does.

Returning from Mama Tree, it was great catching up with Kyiat. She reminded me that she's always in need of old, discarded trinket, and if I have any she'd be happy to take them off my hands. As I noticed with Tesven's Amulet, while most of them are used as decorations, some of them aren't quite as useless as they look since they still possess a hint of old magic. Now that there's a place she can get to (through me) that she hasn't cleaned out of Amulets and Pendants, she's curious, ready to study what I can bring her.

Apparently they've been selling a lot more items to people further abroad, taking in Lorsa messages, and so Alex thinks it's time for them and Bruce to have a warehouse. No need to knock yourself out scrapping with Nitana for the Hats: Safety Dance side quest -- you'll probably fight lots of Osaril, which drop feathers, later on.
There'll be more quests in later areas that focus on fishing for Puna, so feel free to hold off on picking up the Luciola Puna side quest until you can pick them all up to double-count the Puna.
You might as well pick up the Forest Creatures side quest and earn the Luciola Shoes in the background while fighting everything for other reasons anyway.
Lore[]
Luciola Forest, a small forest far east, furthest point from the King’s Castle. Home to Mama Tree, an ancient being who’s current form for the last millennium has been a giant tree. Home to the Valley Elders, and to those who migrated here with the elders during the Great Migration.
A high density of trees with wide leaves make it a natural sanctuary against the purple dust. Since time began the forest has been a preferred place for the playful Rudakai spirits to appear, no direct cause or pattern for the appearances have been identified. All attempts to communicate with the Kai have failed, all they seem to do is play in and out of existence.
No place to gather other than Mama tree. No tavern or inn, most who live here do so in the trees. The food is not much, but it is good. Pesters keep steeling my quills, its as if they want to keep me from writing.
Still no sign of the old man… I still have hope.
