Puna are creatures available in Luciola Forest, Gansu Watering Hole, Riza, and the Floating City of Balance. They were added to the game on March 6th 2019, along with Balance.
Puna was part of the Festival of Oge Mai and the River Festival. During Winter Wonderland 2022, Puna's word count was temporarily increased to 200 once Morimet appeared, and some additional drops were added.
As of April 2021, in order to battle Puna, dust warriors must have an Upgraded Wooden Fishing Rod in their inventory. Battling the Puna does not remove the fishing rod from their inventory. Before April 2021, Puna required 1 Wooden Fishing Rod, which was removed from the dust warrior's inventory at the start of the battle.
Puna's word count used to be 150. During Winter Wonderland 2022, the word count was temporarily increased to 200. It was decreased to 100 in early October 2023, and the time was similarly decreased from 15 to 12 minutes. In addition, their XP and drops were slightly altered.
Lore[]
I've been told that the Puna are valued and sacred to the Raina... but I think it's as food. There was a school of them swimming around me earlier today, and I saw one slip away to explore a dark crevice... only to become a crunchy Zol snack. The moment they saw me though, the smaller group I'd been watching joined another school of fish. Then, as one, they all turned to me and stared.I moved away. They looked like a bigger fish, and I have to wonder if their bright coloring was more a warning and less for camouflage.
