Rulo is a creature found in Three Points Crossing and Gansu Watering Hole.

Its word count was decreased from 550 to 400 in mid March 2024, with the timer decreasing from 100 to 30 minutes. In addition, its XP and drops were altered.

I found out exactly how hard a Rulo's shell can be - my weapon missed, and hitting it numbed my entire hand. Short, stocky, and spiky, they're a hard creature to defeat if you treat them like Pesters and Illi, but knowledge and proper footwear are key. Their trick is to dig through sand rather than climb it, since each spike moves independently, and with the proper rhythm, propels them where they want. For Rulos, a good defense is the best offense because when they launch themselves out of the sand, it'll hurt,and any lost spikes grow back in weeks.

Historical Lore[]

Rulo's hard shell protects it against most attacks, making it a particularly hard monster to defeat, if you lack the proper knowledge and tools. Rather than climbing a sand mountain a Rulo will dig straight through it. It has the ability to move each spike independently, in the proper rhythm, each spike moves the Rulo inches forward. This same control over its body allows the Rulo to eject a spike at high speed towards its target. Over time, it will grow back the lost spikes.
